313F Colm White Bookmaker Beggar's End H'capThe Raceday Stewards considered the nomination of A.P. O'Brien, trainer of Saratoga, (second reserve), to be ridden by W.M. Lordan, who was already declared to ride Light As Air, also trained by A.P. O'Brien and a further request to allow J. Cleary to replace W. M. Lordan on Light As Air. Evidence was heard from Mr. Patrick Keating, Authorised Representative for A.P. O'Brien, who stated that the trainer had always wished for W.M. Lordan to ride Saratoga and at declaration time that animal only got in as a reserve, so he naturally declared him on Light As Air. He further added that Mr. O'Brien only became aware that Saratoga had got in as a reserve after the lorry had left Ballydoyle this morning and was subsequently brought to the races separately, that W.M. Lordan was very familiar with Saratoga and J. Cleary was familiar with Light As Air. Having considered the matter, and in particular the wording of Regulation 3.3, (see below), they denied the request and ordered that W.M. Lordan take up the ride as originally declared. The Raceday Stewards subsequently received a request for J. Cleary to ride the reserve Saratoga, which was allowed.
Regulation 3.3
"The Raceday Stewards should not permit the Rider of a horse nominated at the deadline fixed for nomination of Riders to the Registry Office to switch onto a Horse listed as a reserve, unless their original mount is a non-runner".
A.S. Grant, rider of Timandi, trained by James M. Barrett, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that he had to take a check at the two furlong pole. The Raceday Stewards reviewed the video footage and were satisfied no further action was warranted.
